Medical Magnet and School of Excellence
1. Glen Oaks High has comprehensive 4-year training programs in high demand job markets. They include: Medical Science, Construction and Drafting (basic and architectural with CAD)
2. Upon graduation, our students are qualified for jobs paying $9 to $12 per hour.
3. There are three certification courses available in EMT Basic, Nursing Assistant and First Responder.
4. Dual enrollment classes are taught on site during the school day for both fall and spring semester classes. Students can graduate with college credit, without using TOPS or other financial aid funding. Approximately 90% of last year's Medical Magnet students went directly into college.
5. Drafting, Advanced Technical Drafting and CAD are taught on campus by a specialist. Former students from this program have been admitted into Louisiana State University and Southern University School of Architecture.
6. Construction classes include the use of our state of the art Pre-Engineering ROBOTS lab. Construction technology workstations are used to master skill training.
7. Freshman enter into a Ninth Grade Academy designed to offer support as students transition into high school (Ninth grade classes are taught in a separate building).
8. Qualifications: Medical Magnet 2.5GPA LEAP score of Basic in ELA and Math. Construction Program has open enrollment 2.5GPA upon completion of the freshman year.
9. Leadership and citizenship skills are developed through the ROTC program.
